AXIS StorPoint CD supporting up to 112 CD-ROM discs

CD-ROM discs changer support
The AXIS StorPoint CD supports disc changers (jukeboxes) with up to 8 discs. Since up to 7 such devices can be attached to a single SCSI-bus, the dual SCSI version of the StorPoint CD can handle up to 2 * 7 *8 = 112 CD-ROM discs simultaneously.

This means that up to 112 different discs can be accessed from clients without the need to manually change any of the discs.

CD-ROM disc text files
For each disc available to the StorPoint CD server there’s a text file created
and stored in non-volatile RAM of the StorPoint CD.

This text file can for example be used to set a password for a specific CD-ROM, or it can be used for giving a disc another name than it actually has – a so-called alias name.

SCSI/LUN text files
For each SCSI/LUN address available to the StorPoint CD server there’s a text file created and stored in non-volatile RAM of the StorPoint CD.

This text file can for example be used to set a password for a specific SCSI device, or it can be used for giving a drive a name – a so-called SCSI alias name.

Delimitation with text files
In the StorPoint CD, 8 kbytes of non-volatile RAM (EEPROM) is available. Depending on the amount of changes, the number of text files that can be stored will vary. If only limited changes are made more than 100 files can be stored, but if extensive changes has been made the number might be as low as 25.
A way to increase the number of files that can be stored is to change the DEFAULT.TXT file, which automatically applies to newly inserted CD-ROMs. Only files that in some way differ from the DEFAULT.TXT file are stored separately.
