Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix A - DETAILED TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE App A Product involved: AXIS 560, AXIS 660 Software version: 5.51 1. NDPS is Novell's new protocol for printing and printer management, and will be the default print method in Netware 5. 2. WINS is supported by Windows NT. Together with DHCP it makes the assignment of an IP address and the binding of the host name to that IP address fully automatic. The installation via a Web browser is simplified and the user can directly use the default print server name (e.g. AX123456) instead of IP address. 3. Added support for Direct IPX printing (also called Windows 95 Peer-to-Peer or Direct Mode IPX) that is a HP-Microsoft printing protocol. It allows printing over IPX without going via the printing queues of an NetWare server. 4. The print server will retrieve advanced printer status from printers that support PJL. That information is displayed in NetPilot and the print server's status web page. 5. Support for configuration file loading via TFTP and DHCP has been added. TFTP is an UDP/IP protocol enabling the Print Server to automatically download the configuration file from a TFTP server on the network at startup. 6. The print server can now be managed by SNMP tools in NetWare environments. 7. AXIS 560 and AXIS 660 can now be installed, configured, and managed with HP JetAdmin and HP Web JetAdmin printer management tools. Both Unix and Windows (3.11, 95 and NT) versions are supported. 8. By extending the method to configure the print server via an _CFG port to also cover the IP address, makes it possible to use the print server's internal web pages for further management. 9. Support for WINS and having DHCP enabled by default makes installation in IP networks easier. See section 3. 10. To be able to print to the connected Epson Stylus inkjet printer you shall set the ATYPE parameter to "EPSONLQ2" and BINARY to "No". 11. No additional information. 12. No additional information. 13. No additional information. 14. No additional information. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix B - SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS App B Product involved: AXIS 560, AXIS 660 Software version: 5.51 1. Secondary printer function doesn't work when printing from AXPUW nor AXIS Print Monitor. 2. There is a potential problem with sending print jobs over ftp to printers supporting both bitronics and PJL, when the parameter L1_MGM_INFO (NetPilot property pages, value "Printer Management Information LPT1") is set to AUTO. The status messages sent back to the user may confuse some ftp clients, and thus prevents sending more than one print job over that ftp connection. This is avoided if the parameter L1_MGM_INFO is set to NONE. 3. There is a problem using a print server configured as a HP_Network_Printer in Windows environment, via the standard Windows add printer wizard. When printing to such a printer, the job is redirected through a NetWare queue, but the user cannot control which queue, and thus have no control on which port the job will be output to. 4. PROS print jobs may be corrupted when printing with bitronics support. The problem is avoided if the parameter PRx_IN (NetPilot property pages value "Read-Back Port") is set to NONE. -
