NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE Version 1.3 1(3) ==================== Product involved: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100, AXIS 560 Release date: Dec 17, 1997 Release type: PRODUCTION Software version: 5.39 Software media: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 Flash AXIS 560 Flash Software checksum: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 Flash AXIS 560 Flash Last preceding release: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 5.38 AXIS 560 5.38 Upgrade instructions: See upgrinfo.txt document --------------------------------------------------------------------- Easy Release Description: 1. Improved reliability of flash loading. This applies to both FTP and IPX flash loading. 2. Fixed a problem that made the print server hang sometimes when the IP address or netmask was changed during runtime. 3. NetWare. Fixed a problem that prevented print servers with version 5.36 to appear in NetPilot if there was a router in between. 4. The AppleTalk protocol now supports drivers for the Canon GPS 200 Fax/Printer. 5. Fixed a problem that generated NCP warnings if those warnings were enabled on a NetWare file server. 6. Added support for HP OpenSpool. Now possible to print directly to the print servers IP address with LPR without having to specify a printer port. 7. Fixed a problem that could cause infinite authentication pop-up messages when using MS Internet Explorer for configuration. 8. The default IP address is now 0.0.0.0. 9. The AppleTalk configuration port with the _CFG extension will now dissappear one hour after power on. 10. The IP address, netmask, default router and trap address parameters can now be entered with dots between the numbers. 11. Status and accounting information is now updated periodically on the print server's web pages. 12. Configuration and management from the print server web pages don't require authentication if the root password is equal to the factory default value PASS. 13. The netmask and default router parameters are now affected by a factory default operation. AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 only: 14. Improved interoperability with commonly used Fast Ethernet hubs and switches. 15. The 10/100 Mbit indicator shown in NetPilot on the summary page and on the test page, will now always show the correct value. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix A - DETAILED TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE App A Product involved: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 Software version: 5.39 1. The flash loading is now more reliable. When upgrading a unit that has a software revision lower than 5.39, the flash loading could fail. For units with revision 5.39 or higher, flash loading is more robust. 2. If the IP-address or the subnet mask of the print server was changed while one or more reverse telnet port were configured (set to something else than 0), the print server could hang and would have to be manually restarted. 3. NetWare. Software relase 5.36 introduced a problem in the NetWare RIP protocol which prevented the print server from appearing in AXIS NetPilot on the other side of a router. This problem is now solved. 4. No additional information. 5. Among all the Set Parameters on a NetWare File Server, one can in the NCP section choose the following (default is OFF): "Display NCP Bad Component Warnings" "Display NCP Bad Length Warnings" By enabling these warnings the following message was displayed: "Processed an NCP with a bad sub-function length". 6. The print jobs sent using e.g. OpenSpool will be printed on the printer defined in the parameter DEF_OUT. 7. When the authentication information was split in two packets the print server would not recognize the password. 8. The old default IP address was rejected by routers. This was often a problem in networks using VLAN technology. The print server could not be configured by BOOTP/DHCP if the BOOTP/DHCP server was located on the other side of a router. 9. The AppleTalk configuration port will only appear during the first hour after power on. Resetting the unit will make the _CFG port visible again. 10. The IP address, netmask, default router and trap address parameters can now be entered in the format "aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd" in the configuration file. A space between each number will also work as before. 11. The status is updated every 5 seconds and the accounting page every 5 seconds. 12. No additional information. 13. Having the netmask and default router parameters unaffected by a factory default setting could make the unit unaccessible on a pure IP network if they were set incorrectly. Now, they are set to 0.0.0.0 when doing factory default. AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 only: 14. AXIS PrintPoint 560/100 now works together with the following hubs and switched hubs: 3COM Superstack II 100, Intel Express 100BASE-TX Stackable Hub, Bay Networks 28115/ADV, Bay Networks 58000 (FE Mdule), Bay Networks BayStack 304, Bay Networks BayStack 350T 10/100 TX, Intel Express 100BASE-TX Switching Hub. 15. Occasionally the 10/100 Mbit indicator showed 10 instead of 100 Mbit. This problem is now solved. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix B - SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS App B Product involved: AXIS PrintPoint 560/100, AXIS 560 Software version: 5.39 1.
