NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Products involved: AXIS StorPoint CD and CD/T for Ethernet Release date: 961101 Release type: Production Software version: 3.01 Filename: SPCD_ETH.301 Size: 1092 KB Last preceding release: 3.00 Flash loading instructions: See flash.txt document --------------------------------------------------------------------- Corrected problems and added features in version 3.01: ====================================================== 1. NetWare Burst mode Improved Burst mode performance with Microsoft's NetWare client for Windows 95. Background The StorPoint CD transmits packets with less delay than AXIS 850 and Novell Servers. This is due to our new and more powerful hardware. The NetWare clients for Windows 95 cannot handle packets with short interpacket delay so packets are lost. The number of frames lost depends on the client hardware and so does the performance loss. Typically you can loose 30% performance on a 486-66 PC with Microsoft client. The Microsoft client increases the requested send delay when packets are lost. We have added handling of this send delay in the burst requests and that solves the problem for the Microsoft NetWare Windows 95 client. The Novell client handles packet loss by decreasing the burst size and not by increasing the send delay so you can still expect some performance loss. We recommend that you upgrade to 3.01 only if you have Windows 95 with Microsoft's client. 2. Diagnostics page In the config/public/ folder there is a new html diagnostics page diag.htm. This page could be used to verify the server and drive functionality after installation in a tower. If the page is requested during the first hour after boot up the CD drives performance over the SCSI bus will be verified by automatically locating and reading a large file on an inserted disc. 3. Improved seek performance The seek performance has been improved (SMB 50 percent and NetWare 20 percent). This improves the performance for browsing and accessing files in directories with many entries. 4. Memory upgrade This release supports memory upgrades with DIMM modules. The memory types that can be used are SO-DIMM 1x32 72-pin 5V 60ns 4Mb SO-DIMM 4x32 72-pin 5V 60ns 16Mb The extended memory is auto detected and is used for caching. An additional PLD is required to be able to address the extended memory. This PLD will be supplied only by Axis. 5. Test button If the test button is pressed during power on all LEDs start flashing. If the test button is released and pressed again the factory default settings are restored. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB
