NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Products involved: AXIS StorPoint CD for Ethernet AXIS StorPoint CD/T for Ethernet AXIS StorPoint CD/T Dual SCSI for Ethernet Release date: 970820 Release type: Production Software version: 4.13 Filename: CDE_413.BIN Size: 2118 Kbytes (2,168,150 bytes) Last preceding release: 4.12 Flash loading instructions: See flash.txt document --------------------------------------------------------------------- Added features in version 4.11: ============================================ 1. WINS support The CD-ROM server can now use WINS to register itself in the WINS server. This allows SMB (NBT) clients to map the CD-ROM server from a remote segment without the need for a static mapping on the WINS server. 2. DHCP support The CD-ROM server can now use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol to automatically obtain IP address, NetMask, Default Router, WINS servers, and NetBIOS scope ID. This, in addition to WINS, allows for plug-and-play in SMB networks with a DHCP server. 3. Joliet filesystem support The CD-ROM server now supports the Joliet extensions to ISO9660. Joliet uses the UNICODE character set and allows for lowercase volume names. This file format is becoming more popular on CD:s released by Microsoft. Since neither of the access protocols currently support UNICODE names, only UNICODE characters that can be converted to ASCII are allowed. 4. NFS Volume export The CD-ROM server now exports all currently inserted CD:s as well as config, volumes and cd directories. 5. DAVE support The Macintosh SMB client DAVE is now supported. Corrected problems in version 4.11: ============================================= 6. NetWare 'Preferred server' bug Clients could sometimes get the CD-ROM server as the 'Preferred server' when attaching to the network. This could cause serious problems for especially NETX and VLM clients that were unable to login. Also some print- servers were having problems with this. This was only a problem when using a non-Novell router. The bugfix should correct this problem for most routers, depending on the algorithm they use to designate the 'Preferred server'. 7. NetWare Client32 performance problem with CD-ROM changers Client 32 clients needed to access data on each CD in the \CD directory. This caused a directory listing of the \CD directory to take very long time when there were CD-ROM changers connected to the CD-ROM server. 8. NetWare Client 32 (Win95) and NDS problems The first version (prior to version 2.11) of Novell Client 32 for Windows 95 could not open files when the CD-ROM server was installed in NDS. 9. Number of NDS users in properties The maximum numbers of users allowed on the CD-ROM server was incorrectly displayed in the 'Properties' of the CD-ROM server in Windows Explorer. 10. NDS DS.NLM version The DS.NLM version that the CD-ROM server emulates has now been changed to 5.73, which is the default version used in IntraNetWare 4.11. 11. NetWare supervisor access rights The supervisor didn't always have access to all files and directories. 12. User limit of 25 in SMB (NBT) Due to a bug, the actual limit of the number of users located on a different network segment that could connect to the CD-ROM server using NBT was actually 25, not 300 as previously stated. 13. SMB timestamp on files The date and time of files copied from the StorPoint was incorrect. This caused problems for the network file cache on some clients. 14. Garbage characters in SMB volume names The extra garbage characters could cause problems with some applications. 15. SMB session timeout Problems with session timeout during active use have been corrected. 16. SMB (NBT) login Problems with NBT stops allowing new connections to be created has been corrected. 17. SMB (NetBEUI) name conflict The handling of conflicts between NetBIOS names has been corrected. 18. Internet Explorer 4.0 The CD-ROM server now supports Internet Explorer 4.0 (tested with preview 2). Noted also is that IE 4.0 now supports monospace fonts, which improves appearance when displaying volume rights pages. 19. SCSI termination parameter Since the CD-ROM server is always at the end of the SCSI bus, the termination should always be on. Corrected problems in version 4.12: ============================================= 20. NFS client for OS/2 A problem connecting the CD-ROM server with NFS for OS/2 is corrected. 21. Access rights in NDS Setting NDS rights when using SCSI-alias is corrected. 22. Inherited rights filter in NDS If there was an inheritance filter set on a specific directory, it wasn't possible to see directories below that level, even if the user had rights set on specific CD:s. This problem has been corrected and the user will now see all directories he has access to, even if file scan rights have been filtered on the CD directory or the root of the SYS volume. 23. Rights to files and directories in NWAdmin (NDS) In NWAdmin you can now list all rights a user has on the CD-ROM server. 24. LED indication The LED flashing after a factory default is now modified to be the same as after a regular reboot. 25. User limit Setting user limit and using SCSI-alias is corrected. Corrected problems in version 4.13: ============================================= 26. NetWare logout A problem that caused some VLM and NETX clients to sometimes fail to logout from the CD-ROM server is corrected. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB
