NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Products involved: AXIS 570, AXIS 670 Specific software: Release date: June 29 1998 Release type: TEST Software version: 5.42.4 Software media: AXIS 570 Flash AXIS 670 Flash Software checksum: AXIS 570 Flash AXIS 670 Flash Last preceding release: AXIS 570 5.42 AXIS 670 5.42 Flash loading instructions: See UpgrInfo.txt document Release document: 1.00 --------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE1: ===== When upgrading from release 5.33.4 or older, the print server will set all parameter values back to factory defaults. To avoid loosing your settings it is recommended that you upload the parameter list to a file using FTP before upgrading the Print Server software. When the new software is installed to the print server, the original parameter values may be restored by downloading the parameter file using FTP. If the original release was 5.23.4 or older, two SNA parameter names must be renamed before downloading the parameter list. Change the parameter names HOSTADDR to H1_ADDR and HOST_SAP to H1_SAP. If you don't have access to FTP, it is recommended that you print the parameter list before installing the new software. The printout is useful when setting the old parameter values. Printing the parameter list is done by pressing the test button twice. NOTE2: ===== The non SNA/IBM part of this release is based on Print Server software release 5.43. See Release Descriptions below for information on changes made to the non SNA/IBM parts of the software in the 5.43 release. NOTE3: ===== When upgrading to this release via FTP, it is necessary to enter 'FLASH' in capital letters. At the FTP command line enter: put FLASH --------------------------------------------------------------------- Easy Release Description: 1. An IBM Emulator problem causing wrong print orientation has been solved. 2. An IBM Emulator problem causing the last line in a job not to be printed has been solved. 3. A SNA/5494 emulation problem causing printer devices to hang in VARY ON PENDING state after putting the AS/400 in restricted state or making IPL has been solved. 4. An IBM Emulator problem causing the Print Server sending too many new line commands to the printer has been solved. 5. Three more source bins added. 6. A change of CPI or FGID takes immediate effect also when printing in COR. 7. A problem with changing CPI in matrix printer emulation corrected. 8. New page size limits for switching to/from COR. 11. A problem with permanently saving changes in string type parameters solved. 12. A SNA/5494 autoconfiguration problem after AS/400 backup operations and/or IPL has been corrected. 13. A SNA/5494 autoconfiguration feature causing the printer devices to have VARY ON PENDING status if the printer is turned off or off-line has been removed. 14. Memory configuration information has been added on the testpage. This release is based on Print Server software release 5.43. The changes made in the 5.43 release is covered below: 1. The IP address, netmask, default router and trap address parameters can now be entered with dots between the numbers. 2. NetWare. Fixed a problem that prevented use of multiple queues in bindery emulation mode. 3. Fixed a problem that sometimes prevented the print server from announcing itself in NetWare. 4. Fixed a problem that sometimes prevented notification messages from being shown in NetWare NDS environments. 5. Status and accounting information is now updated periodically on the print server's internal web pages. 6. Configuration and management from the print server web pages don't require authentication if the root password is equal to the factory default value PASS. 7. Fixed a problem that made the print server hang sometimes when the IP address or net mask was changed during runtime. 8. Added support for HP OpenSpool. Now possible to print directly to the print servers IP address with LPR without having to specify a printer port. 9. Fixed a problem that prevented print servers with version 5.36 to appear in NetPilot if there was a router in between. 10. Fixed a problem causing the print server to hang sometimes when print jobs were canceled. 11. Improved reliability of flash loading. This applies to both FTP and IPX flash loading. 12. Fixed a problem that could cause infinite authentication pop-up messages when using MS Internet Explorer for configuration. Recommendation: - An update to this release is recommended if any problems, related to the above changes, have been observed. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix A - DETAILED TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE App A Products involved: AXIS 570, AXIS 670 Software version: 5.42.4 1. An IBM Emulator paper orientation problem has been solved. Before, changing between landscape and portrtait orientation between print jobs could cause the printout to have wrong orientation. 2. In some cases the last line in a print job would not be printed until the next job was sent to the Print Server. This problem is now solved. 3. No further information. 4. When using the GENERIC printer bank, the Print Server could send too many NL commands to the printer, causing wrong formatting of the printout. The problem would occur when using the DIS (Disable) option for the MPL parameter. 5. The source bin parameters that handles manual feed paper, envelope feed and countiuous feed (BIN4, BIN5 and BIN6) are renamed to MANUAL, ENVELOPE and CONTINUOUS. The corresponding bin selection strings in the printer driver (BIN4S, BIN5S, and BIN6S) are renamed to MANUALS, ENVELOPES and CONTINUOUSS. Three new source bin parameters (BIN4, BIN5 and BIN6) and corresponding bin selection strings in the printer driver (BIN4S, BIN5S, and BIN6S) have been added. The PCL4 printer driver is equal to the PCL4 and PCL5 drivers in previous releases. The PCL5 driver can now handle six source bins plus manual, envelope and continuous feed. 6. When the host sends a CPI or FGID change command it will now take effect immediately also when printing in COR. 7. When the print server is configured for matrix printer emulation and the host changes CPI in the middle of a print line sometimes the CPI change took effect in the wrong place of the line. This problem is now corrected. 8. No further information. 9. New default values for CPIs used for COR printing. Added eight parameters for selecting CPIs in COR printing. PORT/LAND COR New parameter ======================================= 5 CPI => 10 CPI 8 CPI => 12 CPI CPI8COR 13 CPI => 20 CPI CPI13COR 17 CPI => 20 CPI 18 CPI => 20 CPI CPI18COR 20 CPI => 20 CPI CPI20COR 25 CPI => 25 CPI CPI25COR 27 CPI => 27 CPI CPI27COR Proport. => 15 CPI PROPOCOR Typograph.=> 15 CPI TYPOCOR 10. The page size set in the selected input bin parameter (BIN1 - BIN6, MANUAL, ENVELOPE or CONTINUOUS) is used when the automatic orientation function is deciding whether the printout shall be in COR or not. 11. No further information. 12. Interference from other devices on the network would in some cases lead to autoconfiguration failure after AS/400 restricted mode and/or IPL. The problem was related to the XID3 negotiation sequence between the Print Server and other devices on the network. This problem is now fixed. 13. If the printer was turned off or off-line this would be dectected by the Print Server and no information would be sent to the AS/400 about the attached printer(s). The printer devices on the AS/400 would be in VARY ON PENDING state until the printer was turned on and put on-line. Now, this is changed so the Print Server will always report a printer even of none is attached. 14. Memory configuration information has been added on the testpage. The information include the amount of both Flash and RAM memory. This release is based on Print Server software release 5.43. The changes made in the 5.43 release is covered below: 1. The IP address, netmask, default router and trap address parameters can now be entered in the format "aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd" in the configuration file. A space between each number will also work as before. 2. No additional information. 3. In some situations during start-up the print server did not send out necessary advertising information resulting in that the unit was not visible for a NetWare server. This problem is now solved. 4. In some situations the print server did not send notification messages when set up in NetWare NDS environments. This problem is now solved. 5. The status is updated every 5 seconds and the accounting page every 5 seconds. 6. No additional information. 7. If the IP-address or the subnet mask of the print server was changed while one or more reverse telnet port were configured (set to something else than 0), the print server could hang and would have to be manually restarted. 8. The print jobs sent using e.g. OpenSpool will be printed on the printer defined in the parameter DEF_OUT (accessed from NetPilot General property page, value "Internal Printout Destination"). 9. Software release 5.36 introduced a problem in the NetWare RIP protocol which prevented the print server from appearing in the list of servers on the file server when placed on the other side of a router. 10. When removing print jobs from the pending job list, the print server sometimes hang. This problem is now solved. 11. The flash loading is now more reliable. When upgrading a unit that has a software revision lower than 5.39, the flash loading could fail. For units with revision 5.39 or higher, flash loading is more robust. 12. When the authentication information was split in two packets the print server would not recognize the password. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix B - SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS App B Products involved: AXIS 570, AXIS 670 Software version: 5.42.4 1. The SNA stack is single host only. Multiple IBM hosts cannot access the Print Server simultaneously. 2. Although it is possible to define several logical units on the IBM host system, the AXIS 570/670 will only print one SNA job at a time. SNA Jobs are held in a print queue within the AXIS 570/670 and are processed on a first-come-first-served basis. 3. The SNA parameters LU_NAME and CP_NAME must be equal. 4. The link to SNA on the management web page is not correct. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix C - AFFECTED MATERIAL App C 1( ) Product involved: AXIS 570, AXIS 670 Software version: 5.42.4 Draft texts for manual updates: NPS Technical Reference Support for editable character tables added and the text in "AXIS HP-MIO TECH REF 1.1 ADDENDUM Editable character translation" shall be inserted in the NPS Technical Reference.
