1(1) NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Product involved: NPS 530/NPS 532 Release date: 95-01-17 Release type: PRODUCTION Software version: 4.23 Software media: Prom 4 Mbit, 120ns Software checksum: Prom 7CBC Last preceding release: 4.22 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Release description: 1. Filtering of binary data is now inhibited when printing a non postscript file with AppleTalk. This is necessary when printing for instance LIPS III files, where data must not be filtered before it is sent to the printer. 2. Conflicts between NetWare and other protocols when printing at the same time has been corrected. 3. "Suspended queue" symptom in NetWare and LAN Server/Manager (that is, jobs in server queue but printer idle) has been corrected. 4. The phone number to AXIS Inc. on testpage has been updated. Best regards AXIS COMMUNICATIONS AB Further information is available on request: Appendix A: Detailed technical description of the release Appendix B: Software limitations Appendix A - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE 1(1) Product involved: NPS 530 Software version: 4.23 -------------------------------------------------------------------- The numbers below refer to items listed on page 1. 1. When a print job is started over AppleTalk, the NPS software checks if it is a postscript job by examining the first string in the first data packet. If it is a postscript job, then all subsequent binary codes should be converted according to the Adobe binary protocol specification. If the postscript string isn't found, then no binary conversion is made for that print job. More specific: A page description language called LIPS III sends binary codes in the data stream that must not be modified in any way. 2. If NetWare starts a new job and the printer is occupied the NPS waits until the printer is available. This causes the job to change status in the printing queue to active. Previously the print job was aborted and restarted after short delay, this would not cause the job status to change. 3. LLC forgot to stop some timers. They are now stopped when closing down a connection. 4. The phone number to AXIS Inc. on testpage has been updated.
